Why does my maltese suddenly have bad breath?

Is this caused by teething? I’ve recently noticed that he is losing is teeth and growing new ones. I feed him dry food, but his breath just smells horrible. How long will it take him to lose all his teeth and grow new ones? He isn’t chewing his dog food like he use too either…but he has a good appetite and is very active.

Our dog walker didn’t show up today, so my dog was unattended all day

When I got home, his breath was rank. Awful. Never smelled worse.

What could cause this? Should I be concerned?

Could he have thrown up and then eaten it?
